We took a boat ride while in Katmai NP to view more bears as they moved to other areas of the park. This is the older couple of very large brown bears that were napping on the beach as we drove up on Naknek Lake, at the mouth of Margo Creek. The salmon were so thick there were areas of the lake that were black, as they approached the creek.
"The Dance". They were playing on the beach and we photographed them for about 3 hours and they never paid any attention to us the entire time. At first we kept a good distance and as they entered the "dance" phase, we moved a little closer but still had some water between us and them while they were on this small gravel bar.
This was a younger couple that wandered up, playing with each other in the same fashion. They never noticed the older bears until the large male dispatched them from the area, and they left very quickly.
